Marginalised communities have gained awareness of their rights and are participating in decision-making
InformAction (IFA) is a women-led human rights organisation founded in 2010 that supports rural and marginalised communities through over 300 Community Action Teams (CATs) and Community Action Journalists (CAJs). IFA leads local organizing, civic education, and rights-based advocacy in Kenya’s underserved areas.
Grounded in Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, IFA addresses structural barriers that limit citizen participation through grassroots strategies like film screenings, community discussions, and local journalism.
With KIOS support, IFA held 20 mobile advocacy forums and 8 dialogue sessions connecting communities with authorities. These events enabled residents to learn their rights, voice concerns, and engage decision-makers. The project triggered 28 civic actions—including protests and petitions— 9 of which were directly supported by CATs under the KIOS-funded programme. Legal assistance was also provided to those facing human rights violations.
The initiative has increased community participation, improved service delivery, and raised awareness of constitutional rights, empowering people to demand justice and transparency.

KIOS has supported IFA since 2018 with funding from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ development cooperation.
